FAQ: FAQ

I'M READY! HOW DO I BOOK MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?

To book your first appointment, also known as an "intake appointment", call 432-242-2266, or send a brief email to: info@thatgrieftherapist.com. (Please do not include confidential or sensitive information via email). I do my best to return email and phone inquiries within 24 hours, but may be longer.

***If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please do not call or email your concerns, dial 911, or go to your nearest emergency room.

DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?

I DO NOT accept insurance for many reasons, but here are my top 2.
#1- I am not a fan of labeling clients. The majority of my clients do not have a diagnosable "mental health disorder", which means for most insurance companies, I would have to give clients a diagnosis to meet the needs of insurance providers. However, there are many reasons someone may want to visit with a therapist. For example, grief is a completely normal reaction to a loss, that does not mean my client meets the requirements for a mental health diagnosis.
#2 I value patient privacy and autonomy. I do not want an insurance company limiting the number of sessions I visit with a client, or telling us what we should cover during our time together. By working independently, it is up to you and me about how many times we visit, and what we visit about.

WHAT ARE YOUR FEES?

Intake appointments- 90 minutes $150
EMDR appointments- 90 minutes $150
All other appointments -60 minutes $125

"HOW DO I KNOW

I IF NEED COUNSELING?"

As a therapist, I am often asked, "How do I know I need counseling?" I also hear phrases like "My problems aren't that bad, I don't know if I really need to come in".  The simple answer to whether a person needs counseling is, if you feel think you might need counseling... you might need counseling. That sounds a little sarcastic, which is not my intent. But it really is that simple. You know yourself better than anyone. If you feel like something is "off", or you're just not quite your best self lately, that's a good indication you might be ready for therapy. It is okay to seek professional help.

There is not a right or wrong time to reach out. Many clients experience relief even after their first session. I cannot count how many times clients have told me, "I wish I would have come in sooner!" The truth is, almost everyone has something they could benefit from working on in therapy. You don't have to have experienced a great tragedy, or been diagnosed with a serious mental health condition to benefit from therapy. Everyone has something they can improve upon.

Here's how you know you're ready to begin counseling sessions with me:

You are READY to make yourself a PRIORITY

You have the TIME (We all have crazy schedules don't we?) But, you are prepared to carve out ONE HOUR a week for you

You have the FINANCIAL RESOURCES (I know, therapy sounds expensive. However, for most clients once they've decided to focus on themselves, and their mental health, the cost becomes a non- issue).
